Primaries, Tuesday, August 14th
Things are warming up for the Tuesday primaries; especially, among the Democrats.
Let’s clear up the Republican Gubernatorial first. Everything in this article is speculation and guesswork. We expect Tim Pawlenty to prevail. By how much nobody knows. Jeff Johnson doesn’t seem to have the money or organizational stamina to do much. Pawlenty has the momentum. We don’t know if there has been internal polling to have an idea of where the GOP primary voters stand. We feel that the Pawlenty campaign is pretty comfortable.
On the DFL side, the action is lively with more dirty laundry coming out regularly. The party discipline has broken down. The governorship and AG races are wide open.
DFL Governor Slot.
Three main contenders—endorsed Murphy, Swanson, and Walz. It’s possible that the two inside the Twin Cities belt-line might cancel each other out leaving Walz a narrow victory.
It appears that Swanson is being blamed for the attack ad on Walz saying he missed 60% of his 2018 Congressional votes; that he was a half-game football coach; and, that Minnesota didn’t need a 40% Governor. Walz, on the other hand through an independent unaffiliated group called something like LiUNAtica put out a flyer showing himself, the two DFL Senate candidates and Keith Ellison for Attorney General. A kindergartener would see this as an unveiled attempt to pick up Ellison Hennepin County votes to offset Murphy Ramsey County voters.
The LiUNAtica group is supposed to be tied in with some sort of North Dakota power union. We thought Russian meddling was enough now we have North Dakota for whatever that means. Then we have the Walz own literature saying Walz-Or-Wisconsin. What’s Wisconsin got to do with our Minnesota election? Does that mean we waltz over to Wisconsin if he gets elected? This election is getting crazier and crazier.
What will the Ellison AG move against the endorsed DFLer do and could it play a role in the gubernatorial race?
The ironic thing about the 40% Governor attack on Walz is that it could come true but not in the way intended. If Ms. Murphy and Ms. Swanson each receive about 30% of the primary vote, that leaves 40% for Mr. Walz. He then could have a good chance of becoming the 40% Governor!
Come Wednesday, August 15, 2018, we should know most of the results of the primary round. On to the general. Tally-ho!
