Once again, “The Donald” scores a weekend media grab.
Arizona Protesters Nearly Guarantee Trump Primary Victory.
First Chicago and now the sands of Arizona. If the protesters genuinely thought they were doing good, then they are extraordinarily politically naive and stupid. On the other hand, was this an undercover Hillary move to help assure the nomination of Mr. Trump? Going up against Sheriff Joe and his senior followers will only aggravate the seniors and encourage their voting for Mr. Trump. Or, maybe it was the Bernie-bopper type individuals who wanted to stretch their legs. No matter.
That’s good news for Hillary as she seems to want to take on Mr. Trump in the November election. However, she could be surprised at the Trump electorate appeal.
The Republican nomination is still not a certainty. Mr. Trump might finish strong and eke out the magic 1237. We don’t think so barring the unexpected. Mr. Cruz has an impossible task if Arizona goes for Mr. Trump. Mr. Kasich is bobbing along trying to garner a delegate here and there and wait out a contested convention. The others who have suspended their campaigns are angling to see where their delegates can count.
Should Mr. Trump come up short on the first ballot, the question becomes whether he can make a deal for the necessary delegates. If the distaste for Trump remains and he can’t deal, then who could emerge from the others? Mr. Kasich would be a good choice in our view but the convention might not see it that way. If that occurs, we see a ballot or two of no winner and then a likely break back to Mr. Trump. It’s a tall order for the opposition to unite behind one candidate quickly. If they can’t or don’t, we believe the odds go back to favoring Mr. Trump.
So much can take place between now and the convention that it’s anybody’s guess as to how things will eventually end up. Stay tuned.
