Brexit, EU, and the Met Council…a parallel—the Metropolitan Council and the European Union.
A call for freedom and democracy in Minnesota.
Wow! What a shocker, the Brits voted to leave the European Union. This is a message to the world that they are a sovereign country, a democratic country and that the voice of the people matters.
What does that have to do with us in Minnesota? Please consider that the European Union and the Metropolitan Council are basically synonymous. They both have similar attributes of not being elected and both operating largely by bureaucratic fiat.
The EU is like the American federal government except the nations belonging to it do not vote on decisions. Fifty-four (54%) per cent of British legislation was required for laws and regulations to conform to EU dictates. The European Union nation members are not free nations. Sound familiar?
Will the governmental elitists in Minnesota get the message? The Met Council operates like the EU. The Met Council is an un-elected overseer.
Let’s have a call for freedom. All the various communities subject to the Met should have the right to let the electorate vote to dis-associate from the Council.
Less government is better government. We had an American revolution for freedom from the British Empire; now, the Brits had a populist revolution to leave the EU. Democracy at work.
Are we in the Twin Cities metropolitan area next?
