A major flaw in his eminent domain thinking will cost him the election.
The Gopher State Politics Institute’s objectives are to render intelligent, well thought out articles-often very subtle but with class and finesse worthy of this readership’s attention. Today, however, we have a tough assignment to communicate in a language that Mr. Trump can understand, that of a street brawl.
Mr. Trump won the South Carolina primary handily. In his victory speech, he did not need to or couldn’t resist the temptation to take an unnecessary shot at Governor Haley. He missed a golden opportunity to congratulate Mr. Bush on Mr. Bush’s gracious suspension of his campaign. Too bad! Mr. Trump just continues to build his winning numbers on his:” I wouldn’t vote for him under any circumstances” ledger. Now at 39%–higher than his primary winning percentage.
We’re afraid that Mr. Trump is using an eminent domain campaign election strategy; that is, demolish your opponents and then re-build. He’s great at the former but lousy at the latter. What is highly significant and that he fails to realize is that you need new building materials to complete the project. Again, he fails to see that there is a finite supply of new political materials and that it takes a minimum of 18¾ years to obtain them. We believe, on the other hand, that the election cycle only has eight to nine months to run.
Should he continue to alienate many of the supporters of his opponents, he might find himself just short of the numbers he needs to take the convention on the first ballot. If that happens, his two main opponents might have to look to and thrown in with a third candidate such as Governor Kasich to stop Mr. Trump.
Or, if he does secure the nomination, but has angered and antagonized the Republican base, he could lose a few crucial points in the general and hand the election to the likes of Mrs. Clinton. That would be an ultimate humiliation and a disaster for the country.
The scorched earth eminent domain campaign approach may keep the media busy but let us not be in Mudville’s shoes on November 9 where the mighty Casey has struck out.
